BLOGGING... we do it because we need to keep our sanity, or share our voice... or just test the waters of various skills and interests that we have. If you don't have a blog and are considering one... start it here. And share it with your sistas.  (but you don't have to)

DCSG is...

Thursday, May 15th @ 12:54 PMpost viewed 204 times

*warning, I'm hormonal so this may be very very emotionally-laden*

You know, yesterday, I sat at the bar having drinks and food with Reina and Arlene, and then I huddled in the hallway during intermission at the concert last night taking pictures and meeting new Sistas and playing around with familiar faces, and then I hitched a ride to my car with Lisa and my long lost brother (a.k.a. her husband)...and when I got home I reflected on my day, and the magnitude of this list.

Nic...I don't know if you can fully fathom what your dream and inspiration has done to many of our lives, but I can honestly say I cannot imagine my life without some of the ladies that I have met here.

I mean think about it...in a time when the Black Woman is under so much scrutiny about survival, and love, and relationships...here we are, a group of STRANGERS...vibing, laughing, crying, loving, praying, and supporting one another, many times without having met!

There are people here that I've become close with that I genuinely care about and I KNOW will be in my life forever...and I don't know how else I would have met them.  We all would probably be passing each other on the street every day, checking out each other's outfits and hair... possibly misinterpreting looks, etc.

Instead, we have a place to fellowship, and that, to me, is truly a blessing.  Yeah, we get into it sometimes...but what sisters don't?

What's lovely is the maturity (of SOME folks, but we're good at clearing the air and setting thing straight here) that allows us to get past most things.

Ok...I'm done.  I'm sleepy because Erykah cursed out security and didn't leave the stage until darn near midnight and I'm PMSing so I'm probably going to be crying if I keep typing...going back to work now.

I LOVE my DCSG

Sunday, May 11th @ 12:15 AMpost viewed 76 times

DCSG,

I just want to let y'all know that I love you!!!  I've been a DCSG for seven years and I consider y'all friends.

No, I haven't met ALL of you.  As a matter of fact I've only met Lisa Lobo (exercise) and Bernadette F2F (shopping trip), but it doesn't matter.  I know your personalities by conversations that go on from day to day.  I may not add to each and every thread that comes through, but I'm here.  DCSG is always front and center on my machine.

I get recommendations (what to do on my anniversary) from you, advice (how to deal with a teacher who lost my son's glasses) from you, where to get good or not so good fish (Horace & Dickies), where to shop for AA books (Everybody's Place in B'More) , etc.  I've even taken the advice from Kandy on where to buy my spoilt-azz Yorkie, Yip-Yip.

We've talked about everything from the tv show Sex in the City, Halle Berry, the best Happy Hour spots, Lace front wigs, Avon, Jimmy Choo's, lipsosuction, job's, our kids, our churches, best place to stay while in NYC, ERRthing under the sun.  It's never the same-ole, same-ole!

We fuss and cuss and make up.  We check each other, then are gracious enough to check ourselves.  Weeelllll, at least most of us! LOL!  But that's life.

We have good intentions and eventually agree to disagree.  In the end, it's all good!!

What I've learned about some of my DCSG's:   Ginger doesn't have any cut cards and she's thoroughly edumacated (smile) working on her 3rd Masters.  Mz. Tina always gives us the sales and discounts. (Thanks Tina, I've spent way too much at Smart Bargains!) Kandy is funny as hell and needs to write a book!  She and her the midget (as she lovingly calls her son) loves the beach. Karen Alston stays on the go and she lets us know the exciting photography shoots her brother works on. April S-S had twins (boy and girl) in the late summer. Raycal and Arlene holds the conversations down on the weekends. Lisa Lobo is so dedicated to fitness she comes down to S.E. on Saturday mornings from B'More to gives classes and she's has a strong resemblance to Laila Ali. Yellow Sunshine will ask all of the hard questions and give it to you straight. Barbara and Tracy are holding down the new 20's with me!  Forties and Fabulous!   And our moderator Nic, always has a level head and is a word smith.   She is fair, open-minded, and she is unwavering when there is something that she believes.  Oh and lets not forget she's a referee, if need be.   Nic, thanks for making this sisterhood thrive!

Smooches!!!

Why I love DCSG

Saturday, May 10th @ 9:33 PMpost viewed 76 times

Here is a short list of why I am so thankful for this group:

1. I have made incredible friends on DCSG.

2. A few years ago someone posted a job announcement for CBS daytime in NYC. I sent it to a friend, who shared it with her co-worker and he went on the audition and got the job. He has gotten several other acting roles since and moved to LA. He thanks me for his career taking off.......

3. I stayed in a amazing house in Martha's Vineyard last year owned by a fellow DCSG. I stayed at her property.

4. I have been to many FREE events, due to the women on this list. Just attended one on Sunday night! :)

5. One of my friends was trying to get into the State Department Credit Union, and was able to do so because of DCSG.

6. There are many jobs, that I have forwarded to friends over the years. So many that folks come to me when they are looking for jobs because they think I have a JOB hook up!

7. I am attending a Marriott workshop for small businesses/vendors next week because of an email from a DCSG.

8. I am informed about world events, entertainment, culture, issues, etc., all day. I feel as if DCSG is my personal CNN. I don't have to turn on the tv during the day.

9. I have a wonderful, tough, "oak tree" of a personal trainer, Lisa Lofty, who is a DCSG. She has changed my life...

There are so many other reasons........I could go on for hours! This is a wondeful group! It is a blessing! I am so thankful that I have the chance to utilize this great resource.....

I wanted to add the comment that I am not the originator of the message... just the poster.

Of course I love DCSG. But these words weren't mine.
