I appreciate the flattery... but (Nictastic)
Blog Entry

Are you KIDDING ME??

Tuesday, July 1st @ 10:03 AMpost viewed 145 times

I know I should be flattered... but for real, I'm really saddened.

The DAY I open DCSistagirls to a new level, with a higher purpose... at least 3 people who used to be members of my group have decided to bite my style, steal my name and start "spin-off" groups.

Now, over the years, I have been pretty laid back about the use of the "sistagirls" brand by other groups. But I can't afford to do that now. Everytime someone else steals my name--they dilute my brand.

It feels like someone is trying to steal my identity.

What did I do to anyone to deserve theft of my concept, my hard work, my ideas and my time? If it were strangers, I would probably not be so hurt. But folks who were in my group -- to turn on me this way?

Wow.

Its tragic that even as I try to bring more and more women together, to learn, to share and to grow... there are still women out there who think its okay to steal from another sista for any reason.

At any rate... this is to inform everyone... there is no DC SISTAGIRLS2, 3, OR WHATEVER! There is one. Only one.

If you want to create your own world -- create your own name. Rock it that way. Don't bite someone else's style... its beneath both of us.

Nic,

I have to say that you are correct in being upset regarding the "jacking" of your name "DC Sistagirls".  It is unethical to say the least.  Unfortunately, there are many people in this world that will steal the "sweetening out of gingerbread" if you let them.  They can't help themselves.

You started a phenomenal group and it will progress despite the ill will from those who can't appreciate your vision or hard work.  It's difficult to maintain a site like this with so many personalities running around.  You are to be commended for your efforts and please do not allow these unscrupulous women to steal your joy.

I'm sure there's a way to find out who started the groups and to inform Yahoo that the use of the name is a copyright infringement.  They would most gladly shut it down if they thought there would be some type of legal repercussion.

Stay strong Sis and ignore the "haters".  Foot in mouth

Nic,

I understand why you would be upset at someone creating a DCSistagirls 2 but the word sistagirls has been used since forever.

There is a sistagirls.org, There is a sistagirls love, there is a bahu sistagirls.

I don't know if you are including me in the 2 or 3 people who created spin off groups but my group Mdsistagirls was created back in May of 2007 before I knew anything about you closing DCSistagirls. If you're not referring to me then ignore my comment.

My advice to you is try to not take it personally. I know it is hard but Life goes on. Laughing

No one can devalue what you are trying to do. Keep your head up sis.

Its sorta hard not to take DCSistagirls2 personally.

Its a little rough to read... "we started this group since the other group closed"... when that's a lie. DCSistagirls on yahoogroups closed because DCSistagirls the networking group opened up its own shop. Someone said ... "I just can't afford the new site"... how can you not afford FREE? lol...

What's really good... is that either way it goes... they help me out. If they stay open and move up in the google ranks -- my name is still pushed out there farther and wider. If they shut down, then I don't have to worry about any confusion.

Basically, someone decided that they didn't like my changes. And seriously, I'm okay with that. But to lie about my motives, use my name as their own... that doesn't sit well with me.

I've never heard of Md Sistagirls before yesterday. So, it was not only a surprise but a bit of a slap...  But at the end of the day... it doesn't matter.  We will either all come together... or some folks will fall by the wayside. I'm moving forward because my vision is just that large. It is that simple for me. Folks can come along or not.

There are other "sistagirls" groups out there, VA sistagirls, NC sistagirls, soon to come - Chicago sistagirls. I am working with the ladies/group owners of all of those groups so that WE collectively can move forward and grow a nation-wide network of positive sistas doing our thing. That to me is reflective of sistahood, of being positive and upright with another sista.

And while "sistagirls" in various forms is in use for many organzations, this is a little deeper than that for me. (And just because it says "sistagirls" doesn't mean it has been trademarked. Trust me.)

It isn't that some vague unknown somebody decided... hey let's use "sistagirls" as our group name. Its that people, sistas, who were in this group, every day, chatting and sharing... decided that it was okay to just walk off with what they knew already had a following of its own. They didn't want to start something new, or even something similar... they wanted to siphon from this tank what they thought they should have. And that's so unnecessary.

If they weren't being underhanded, they would have emailed everyone. But they didn't. If they weren't being sneaky, why wait until July 1 to open? Why not last year? Or last month? Or hell... last week? They have had 8 years to come up with DCSG2. But they didn't do it until July 1. Amazing coincidence, no?

Yeah I can feel what you are saying. I find it hilarious that they are doing it in hiding.

I am not hiding from anyone and you can look on Yahoogroups and see when my group was established. It clearly states founded March 16, 2007. So sorry if you feel like I'm stepping on your toes but that is not the case.

You just heard about it yesterday because someone posted it onto the old DCSG group which I never did and never was going to do because I didn't feel that would be right.

I can't stop you from taking my group personal but my group has nothing to do with me trying to undermine what you are doing. My group is just that, just a group. I just want to be able to chit chat easily and freely. I created it early last year when I discovered VASistagirls. I have already been a member of NCSistagirls for many years and figured since no one had a MDSistagirls, I would create it. I will still come here and look at the messages when I am able to. I am still a DCSG and just because I have a MDSistagirls does not change that in anyway. I cannot speak for any of the other groups, I can only speak for myself.

Wishing you the Best!

I will say this whome ever created the DCSistagirls too is a punk bitch ass.. Show yourself why are you hiding if you are so proud at what you did.

Nic, I just say to continue doing you.  As you know I started GTBF, and it's been 10 years....there was one group that started after that but it didn't become of anything.  Don't worry about anything or anyone using your site name.  This site/group will thrive and they all will be right here.

What did Jill Scott say "Hate on me HATER"!!!!!!!

Now carry one....Hell I goota start me a damn blog.
